LEH: Indefinite curfew was clamped on August 2 on the border town of Leh following police firing in which three persons were killed and more than 80 injured. The police however confirmed only one death. The town has been witnessing sporadic violence ever since the Buddhists have been demanding more autonomy.

On August 27 also some militants threw a bomb on a police party which the government says provoked the violence.

A Kashmiri Muslim girl died last week in stray firing and non-Buddhists have been protesting for adequate protection. Buddhist militants have often pelted stones at the police and several homes in the town.
