LUCKNOW: Curfew was imposed on Khurja town in the northern Indian Uttar Pradesh state following arson firing and a bomb explosion which killed six persons an official spokesman said here.

One person was killed and two policemen were injured when some anti-social elements fired at the policemen who had reached the scene following violence sparked off after two cows were found lying dead in the town in Bulandshahr district.

Earlier a mob set fire to seven thatched houses. The fire was controlled by the police immediately.

Five persons were killed in a bomb explosion in Khargoshan area when police was searching the house. One hundred curde bombs were seized from the house. The searches continued the spokesman said.

The police had recovered three pistols three guns three more bombs 13 cartridges and some lethal weapons during the searches so far. Thirty nine persons were arrested so far.

Strict vigilance was being kept over the situation.

The situation in Ghaziabad was stated to be under control. No fresh incident was reported during the past 24 hours. More than 290 arrests have been made so far.
