Even though the final CBI report is likely to be submitted to Supreme Court on Monday, very few know that a copy of the Secret Information Report (SIR) prepared in the case had been missing for the Cabinet Secretary’s office since 1990. The SIR was prepared on the basis of investigations done by Mr. Nandy and CBI officials at St Kitts in early 1990.
There were six copies of the SIR. Besides the CBI director and the Directorate of Enforcement, then Cabinet Secretary Vinod Pandey was also in possession of a copy. Mr. Pandey’s copy, however, had mysteriously vanished from the Prime Minister’s Office in 1990.
Although the matter was not reported to the local police, the copy is still missing, sources Said, It was this “missing” copy, which was reportedly leaked to a leading fortnightly magazine in 1990, which made a series of expose on the basis of the SIR. Excerpts of the same SIR were recycled by a leading. National daily last year.
