AMRITSAR, India: Gunmen shot dead three CRP, personnel and injured four others in an ambush near Marimeghu village under Bhikiwind police station. One company commander of the rank of DS. SK Mishra, was among the killed.

According to a CRP.R, spokesman, the other two persons were the Griver of the jeep, Constable Jagat Parsad and Constable Chandérpal Singh, L/NK. CB. Mathew, Const, Amit Kumar and Const. R.K. Buta were injured.

At about 9:45 pm, a seven person patrol party of 19 battalion. Led by Comp. Commander, SK. Mishra, was returning to its base camp at Bhikiwind! Near Mari ‘might. When jeep slowed down of negotiate a turn, the gunmen 1215 in number, who were hiding in wild grass along the road started firing. The tires of the jeep were burst and it slipped off the road. ‘The gunmen sprayed bullets from distance of four meters killing the company commander and the river. The five remaining company men were injured while they took up positions and returned the fire according to the police. Gunmen escaped unhurt.

Another patrolling party of the battalion heard the gun shots and reached the spot in about five minutes which paved the way for the gunmen to go away according to the report.
