ZADAR,CROATIA: Fighting raged inland Jan.26 from the Adriatic port of Zadar in a fifth day of combat since Croats broke a yearlong truce by attacking the Croatian Serbs’ self-proclaimed republic of Krajina, U.N. officials said. Defying a U.N. resolution threatening sanctions if attacks persist, Croatian troops continued forward into Serb occupied territory. A day after two French peacekeepers were killed in the Croatian fighting, France announced Tuesday that it is sending the aircraft carrier Clemenceau and seven other warships to the Adriatic Sea. The battle group could be used to enforce a U.N. declared no Night zone over Bosnia or to protect or evacuate peacekeepers.
