How and for what reason did a Brampton resident make his way to the Niagara Region where his body was found in the river? Police and Crime Stoppers are looking for clues to such questions and are hoping the public will provide the needed information.
The victim was reported as missing us of December 28 1993 when he left his residence in Brampton. Narinder Singh Chahal age 24-years described as male East Indian 58” 170 tbs. with short dark hair and neatly trimmed beard was last seen at 8:00 p.m that night when he went out alone. At that time this man was wearing a light colored shirt dark pants and a black leather jacket.
Some months later an unidentified male was found along the banks of the Niagara River near Service Road 30 in Chippawa on March 23 1994 at 2:00 p.m. Investigation revealed the body to be that of Mr Chahal from Brampton. There were no signs of obvious trauma to the body and the cause of death determined to be drowning after the victim jumped or fell into the river. It is believed the body partially frozen in the ice had been in the water over the winter
The victim had immigrated to Canada only two months before he went missing from his home It is unknown how Mr Chahal arrived in the Niagara Region its likely he may have hitchhiked the distance from Brampton
