CHANDIGARH, (PTI):A Left Wing opposition Communist Party of India (CPI) leader, comrade Jasbir Singh and a hard core activist of the Bhindranwale Tigers of Khalistan Force (BTKF) were among six people killed in northern Indian state of Punjab on May 19.

Security forces apprehended three suspected militants during the period,

Comrade Jasbir Singh, a CPI candidate from the Kharar assembly constituency, was shot dead by some unidentified people in Soara village under Kharar police station,

Two militants, including Mangat Singh alias Mangia, an area commander of the BTKF, were killed in an encounter with security forces near Kaleke village under Bhikhiwind police station, The other militant has not yet been identified.

The chief of the Tarn Taran police, Ajit Singh, said Mangat Singh was wanted in about a 100 murder cases, including the gunning down of 11 communist workers in Chela

Two militants were killed while another escaped after an encounter with the security forces near Tasirewal village in Ferozepur district May 18.

The dead militants were identified as Shinda of Dhaleke village and Jagtar Singh of Sanghe Ke village, under Moga Sadar police station. One .12 bore rifle and a 303 pistol along with some ammunition were recovered from the spot.

A person, identified as Mithu Singh of Kot Dhana village under Dhanaula police station of Sangrur district was shot dead by militants May 18 at his residence.

The GRP of police station Sirhind apprehended three suspected militants from the Sirhind railway station, One .12 bore single barrel gun and a .12 bore pistol were recovered from them.
