CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court full bench has dismissed the writ petitions seeking revival of the Punjab Assembly dissolved in 1987 to effectively put an end to speculation about the installation of traditional Akalis to power again without having to face the electorate.
The eagerly awaited judgement was announced by chief justice J.Y. Gupta on Monday. The bench also upheld the 64th constitutional amendment where by the life of the President’s rule in Punjab was extended beyond one year.
The Akalis advocate Manjit Singh Khaira is planning to appeal to the Supreme Court for which the full bench granted him permission.
