NEW DELHI: The existing yard- sticks for measuring the quality and well-being of life in both rich and poor countries were erroneous as they ignore aspects of living of the most profound value to an individual, Prof Partha Dasgupta of Cambridge University said here Wednesday.

Delivering this year’s Coromandel Lecture to mark the presentation of the Borlaug award for outstanding contribution to agriculture here on Wednesday, Prof Dasgupta pilloried conventional estimates of real national product as they did not consider possible environmental degradation accompanying production and consumption activities.
