CHANDIGARH: The Akali Dal (Mann) has strongly condemned the detention and torture of Miss. Sarabjit Kaur daughter of Jasmer Singh of Nathowal village in Ludhiana district.
In a statement issued here on Friday the party secretary Amritpal Singh Nakai said on March 22 the police raided the house at mid night and used abusive language against the family. The police did not listen to the plea that they should interrogate the girl in the presence of the panchayat. She was thrown into a jeep and the father also managed to accompany his daughter.
“Nakai alleged the girl was hanged upside down and tortured for two days. When the villagers reached Jagraon police station they were not told about the whereabouts of the father and daughter. The villagers surrounded the police station and in the meantime they found that she had been admitted to the hospital. The police were forced to hand over the girl to the villagers. The Superintendent of Police admitted that she was innocent.
