CHANDIGARH: The Punjab police set free Dr. Ajit Singh Sidhu a senior professor at the Punjab Agricultural University at Ludhiana 30 hours after he was picked up from his campus residence.
Prof Sidhu is the father of Daljit Singh the president of the AISSF (Daljit) an important militant leader of Punjab. The teaching community, Prof Sidhu’s wife and the Punjab Human Rights Organization sent protest telegrams to Amnesty International against the arbitrary action of the police,
The police action was in retaliation to the abduction of some relatives of DS. Mangat DGP operations,
Dr. Sidhu was kept blindfolded throughout his detention.
PHRO condemned the police for abducting Sidhu merely because of his relationship to Daljit Singh. It exposed the police in indulging in terrorism it said.
