CHICAGO: California Congressman Wally Herger was warmly received and welcomed at O’Hare Airport on Saturday, the July 22nd, 1989 by Sikh community.

In the evening a meeting was ‘organized to honor the Congressman. He was presented a Champion of Human Rights Award by the Sikh Community of Chicago and Milwaukee.

Dr. Iqbal Singh from North Carolina explained about India being a fake democracy. Lakhwant Singh Komal and Dr. JS.

Soni welcomed the Congressman. Surinder Pal Singh Kalra (Director Administration WSO) inttroduced the Congressman and highlighted his contributions, Speaking on the occasion Wally Herger stressed upon the Sikh Community to be politically more alive. Dr. Balwant Singh Hansra conducted the stage. Mahavir Singh Dhillon presented words of thanks to close the meeting. Wally Herger also addressed the Sikh congregation at Palatine Gurdwara on Sunday the July 23rd 1989. The Board of Trustees of Sikh Religious Society with its President Lakhwant Singh Komal presented a plaque to honor the Congressman for his understanding the Sikh cause, Dr. Karamjit ‘Singh Rai spoke on the Sikh issues, Harjap Singh Sangh introduced the Congressman. Surinder Pal Singh Kalra thanked the Congressman for his visit, and the Sikh

Religious Society and Sadh Sangat of Chicago and Milwaukee for making this occasion a success.
