CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governments agricultural department has detected that weedicide worth about Rs 50lakh supplied by a firm belonging to a Congress (l) member of Indian Parliament Surinder Singh Kairon is adulterated. The department purchases the weedicide from manufacturers and distributes it among farmers by introducing a subsidy of about 25%. Kairon firm supplied 40000 kg of weedicide at the commencement of the current paddy transplantation season in the Punjab. On verification it was found that 14600 kg already used by farmers is adulterated
The agricultural department has stopped the sale of the remaining quantity of the weedicide fearing loss to farmers.
