JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir police is faced with a ticklish problem of arresting a Cabinet Minister charged with abducting and raping a minor.
The Minister belongs to the Congress (I) Party which has an alliance with the National Conference (Farooq) in the State.
The Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, Mr. Sudesh Gupta, has issued non billable warrants against the Minister and directed the police to produce him in his court on September 13.
The warrants have been issued on the basis of the FIR. The warrants would however, go unexecuted because the name of the Minister has not been correctly spelt in the FIR number 98 of 1981 at Satwari police station.
It is reliably learnt that certain Central intelligence agencies and the State police which enquired into the Ministers involvement in the rape after the court issued the warrants on August 9 have reached the conclusion that the Minister was involved in the act of raping a 15year old girl. Father’s name of the accused and his residential address tally with that of the Minister.
‘The case is pending before the court for the past seven years. The incident occurred on June, 1981. The Minister along with 11 bad characters of the area abducted the girl from her house in Makwal village in the Satwari area and lodged her in ‘a house in a lonely place near Shaki Nagar where she was raped for seven days. A police party accompanied by victim’s father, Mr. Girdhari Lal, raided a house in GhouManhasan village from where the Minister hails and recovered the girl on June 11.
