NEW DELHI: Premier Rajiv Gandhi’s Congress I party lost seven parliamentary seats in the centrally administered union territories this time, while it had conceded only one seat to an independent in the 1984 polls in the 13 constituencies.

The party won five seats while the rightwing BJP got four, the Janata Dal two and independents two.

The Congress-I won two seats in Delhi, east Delhi and Chandni Chowk and the one seat each from Andaman Nicobar Islands, Pondi cherry and Lakshadweep. The Dadra Nagar Haveliand Daman Diu seats went to independents.

The Janata Dal got outer Delhi and Chandigarh, while the Bharatiya Janata Partywon New Delhi, South Delhi, Karol Bagh and Sadar.

The winners were L. K. Advani (New Delhi), Madanlal Khurrana (South Delhi), Tarif Singh (outer Delhi), HKL Bhagat (East Delhi), JP. Aggarwal (Chandni Chowk) Kalka Dass (Karol Bagh), VK Malhotra (Sadar), P. Mohammad Sayeed (Lakshadweep), AP Shan mughan (Pondicherry), Manoran jan Bhakia (Andaman and Ani cobar), Harmohan Dhawan (Cha ndigarh).

The independents were Devji Tandel (Daman and Diu) and Sayji Delkar (Dadra Nagar Hav eli). The latter was a Congress (I) rebel. Dadra Nagar Haveli was won by an independent last time.
