NEW DELHI: The Congress-I took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party recently for its remark that it would provide an alternative to the “Congress-I culture”
The party spokesman Mr Vitthal N. Gadgil cited the recent happenings in the Rajasthan assembly ‘to GIVE what he said was an example of the BJP culture.
Mr Gadgil stated that in their first letter to the Speaker 20 MLAs had claimed in Rajasthan that they had formed a party called the Janata Dal (Digvijay Singh). These MLAs did not take a stand that the Janata Dal had split he said.
Subsequently Mr Gadgil added six more MLAs joined the group. Congress-I MLAs filed a petition against them under the Anti-Defection Law.
“It is important to note that the first letter of 20 MLAs made no mention of the Janata Dal in Rajasthan having split. More importantly there was no mention till January 31 of six more MLAs having joined them later” Mr Gadgil said alleging that these six MLAs also kept quiet about this.
Amidst these happenings in Rajasthan Mr Gadgil recalled the Lok Sabha Speaker gave a ruling that the split in a party was a onetime affair and not a continuous process.
According to Mr Gadgil six MLAs in Rajasthan who had switched their allegiance later filed replies to the Speaker that they had expressed their intention to Mr Digvijay Singh (now a minister) on November 6 that they would join his group and that Mr Digvijay Singh should inform the Speaker.
