Sir,
Throughout history mankind has been a male dominated society. How little progress we have made in truly establishing equality for both sexes.
In India even today females are considered a liability. Bride burning is an everyday occurrence in modern day India. “Sati” is still thought of as highly commendable by many.
So now Dr. Stephens has perfected a test to determine the sex of an unborn child. Little wonder that it is so popular with the Indo/Canadian and Indo/American community. What is truly appalling is that some Sikhs are also taking part in this willful murder of unborn women. The Sikh religion clearly states that women are Equal to men. Why then are female children considered to be a liability to their fathers? Why are women still pressured to have male children?
The World Sikh Organization strongly condemns this practice of blatant discrimination against the female sex. All ten Gurus taught that all people are born equal. Men and Women alike. Sikhs must put into practice what they profess to believe. It is not enough to state that it was taught by the Gurus It is not enough that the Guru Granth Sahib says that men and women are equal. Sikhs must practice in their daily living equality for all. We are deeply shamed to see Sikhs on National Television supposedly supporting the clinics of Dr. John Stephens.
It would be strongly recommended that every Gurdwara across the nation raise their voice in protest. Petitions can be signed and sent to the Media Your voice must be heard These are fundamental beliefs of Sikh Religion that are being trampled on here.
