We have been informed by Ankhila Punjab that Vision Television has cancelled the broadcasting of the Ankhila Punjab as of August 17, 1996. As a regular viewer of the program, it is a ‘Shame to see it being taken off the air. We have been appraised #4) he recent events involving AK Television and Ankhila Punjab. Ankhila Punjab should have been given an opportunity to fully address its concerns with the CRTC, It is apparent that the CRTC has made a unilateral decision without first consulting and obtaining the input of the producers of Ankhila Punjab or the Sikh community of Canada. ‘The decision by the CRTC was made in a virtual vacuum based on letters and correspondence received from the Indian High Commissioner to Canada and relatives of an Indian cabinet minister.
It is our intention to have a protest outside the premises of Vision Television (80 Bond St., Toronto) on Tuesday August 20, 1996 from 12:00 to 14:00, to express our concerns with respect to cancellation of the broadcast of Ankhila Punjab. The intention of the protest is to request VISION TV’s management to initiate process of dialogue; a key ingredient for the success of democratic society and reinstatement of Ankhila Punjab Television Program. We would hope that Mr. Fill Fraser, President of VISION TV will be able to address the protestors as to why Ankhila Punjab was taken off the air.
