AHMEDABAD (PTI): The death toll in the western state of Gujarat following incidents of violence over the last four days rose to 25, with two persons being killed, and four others injured, in police firing and stabbing incidents in Raikhad locality here Sunday afternoon,
One person was killed and another injured when police opened fire to disperse two clashing groups in Raikhad locality, –
One of the four persons injured in the stabbing incident later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the situation in other parts of Ahmedabad city remained peaceful but ‘tense’ as sporadic incidents of arson, stabbing and stone-throwing continued.
The worst-affected areas of Dariapur and Shahpur in the walled city remained peaceful with strict enforcement of curfew.
A senior official of the Indian Oil Corporation was killed in Naranpura area of the city last night.
Another person was hacked to death in Amraiwadi area by a group of persons.
Police fired 11 rounds to disperse a mob which set fire to two shops in Naroda industrial area Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition, L K Advani, and Janata Dal leaders former prime minister V P Singh and Mufti Mohammad Sayyed visited the riot-affected areas and the injured in hospital in Ahmedabad.
