NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu Government was asked to ‘relieve and return en masse” the 30memberstrong National Security Guard (NSG), deployed for VVIP security in the state, following the Center’s decision to substitute the NSG contingent on VVIP security duty in Tamil Nadu and some other Slates by the IndoTibetan Border Police (ITBP).
The State Government had already formed a special force called the “Special Security Group’ (SSG) with a strength of about 500 men which had been given training and equipment for VVIP Security duties, an official Press release issued here on May 13 said.
It said that as the induction of a new batch of IndoTibetan Border Police into the security duties of the VVIP was bound to create ‘operational problems,’ and the Center had repeatedly been demanding return of the NSG personnel, the State Government had how decided to relieve and return en masse the NSG to the Government of India.
The release said though the State Government had been asking the Center to make available certain anns and ammunition specifically meant for the SSG, there was not much response so far. Though the Static would manage the V VIP security with the SSG, it was necessary to equip the SSG with suitable arms and ammunition.
“The State Government has been asking for the supply of MP5 submachine guns and glock pistols for the use of the SSG,” it said. The DGP would soon write to the director, IB, that the NSG would be repatriated to the Center en Masse, besides urging the Center to supply the submachine guns and pistols immediately, the release added.
