Chandigarh — The copilot of the ill-fated Kanishka Jumbo of Air India which crashed into the sea near London, was Satwinder Singh Bhinder, hailing from Karnal district in Haryana.
The 41yearold pilot had left the Indian Air Force some years ago to join civil aviation. His father Mr. Nishan Singh is a leading farmer of Karnal area.
Mr. Bhinder who leaves behind a daughter and a son besides a young widow is a close relation of Gen. Mohan Singh of INA. He is the brotherinlaw of Mr. Ravi Sandhu, senior executive engineer with Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) now on deputation with the Punjab State Agricultural Marketing Board. The family received telephone from Mr. Bhinder’s residence in Bombay late on Sunday evening.
