Srinagar: February 11 crowds came out here on the streets shouting pro Pakistan and anti-India slogans. They were observing February 1] as the black day to record their strong feelings over the hanging of Kashmir Liberation Front leader, Maqbool Bhatt, on this day a year ago. Maqbool Bhatt was sentenced to death on the charge of murdering a police inspector. Posters had appeared on the walls of all the major cities and towns of the valley appealing the shopkeepers not to open their shops.
Crowds surrounded a parked police van and put it on fire. The police opened fire at the crowd, killing one person and injuring many. Clashes also took place in other towns.
