CHANDIGARH India: Efforts were made by the district administration to avert a show down between the workers of the ruling Akali Dal and Akali Dal (B) at Gurdwara Akhal Garh Sahib on the eve of Shah Mela Both factions of Akali Dal had been preparing for the trial of strength for the past three days over the issue of addressing the political conference from the stage set up by the Gurdwara management on the premises of the shrine. Leaders of both factions have taken the stand that they would not allow the other faction to address the conference from the stage. The ruling Akali Dal was at a disadvantage as Gurdwara management is under S.G.P.C. over which the ruling Akali Dal has no control now. However the district officials succeeded in persuading leaders of Akali Dal (B) for allow the ruling Akali Dal to address the conference at 1.00 p.m. The ruling Dal handed over the stage to Akali Dal (B) at 1:15 pm.
Prem Singh Chandoomajra addressing the conference said that the unity among all Punjabis was the need of the hour. Owing to disunity in the Akali Dal the Centre was not implementing the Punjab accord he said.
