NEW DELHI: The Punjab police are arresting innocent people involved with civil rights, movement and liquidating them labeling them as terrorists according to the Committee for Information and Initiative on Punjab.

Members of the committee held a press conference here on April 29 to give instances of such acts by the Punjab police.

They cited the instance of Avtar Singh Sidhu, a leader of Youth Akali Dal who was kept in illegal detention and tortured, his family members arrested and framed up on false charges, and his business closed down, for the fact that he choose to give the journalists information about the innocent people being killed and implicated by the Punjab police.

The committee members claimed that Sidhu, who was tortured endlessly by the police was a living example of the blatant and brazen manner in which the Punjab police are killing innocent people and alienating even those who were not the least involved in any crimes.
