MALTON, Ont A Sikh children symposium was organized by a very progressive and concerned group “Sikhism and you”. Their primary purpose is to infuse and enhance Sikh Philosophy, Sikh ethics and Sikh behavior in young Sikh children living in North America.

‘Symposium was held on April 7/90 at Gurdwara Sahib Malton, Ontario. It was their second successful effort by the organizers of Sikhism and you. S. Satwant Singh, S. Sohan Singh and S. ‘Awtar Singh selflessly combined their efforts to achieve the desired objectives. There is certainly a need for such projects. S. Pashaura Singh has been a great source of inspiration to the organizers and has given a new dimension to the Sikh cause.

About 35 children of different age ‘groups participated in the Symposium. Participants were required to study the prescribed books following the guide- lines in order to develop deep under- standing of Sikh way of life in the modem context. Participants were highly enthused about the idea and came well prepared.

Following were the results.

First group (7-10 yrs)

Gurbans Kaur (First), Kawandip

Sigh (Second), Harpreet Singh (Third).

Second Group (11-14 yrs) Manpreet Kaur (First), Gurpreet Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur, (Third),

Third Group (15-18yrs) Tajman Kaur (First), Avtar Singh (First), Alambir Singh (Second), Ajitpal Singh (Third).

  1. Mohinder Singh, S. Gurdev Singh, S. Pashaura Singh, and S. Ripsodhak Singh were the judges and had a rather difficult time in deciding as all the participants were unique. Prizes were given by a well-known community worker, S. Kuldip Singh Chhatwal. In his address he stressed the importance of moving slowly but surely. Also complemented the efforts of the organizers. He also indicated that he saw the surge of boundless energy among those children who will carry the spirit of Sikhism in its purity. NOTE: This Symposium was organized in association with Shiri Hemkunt Foundation Inc. and winners will participate in. an international symposium to be held in NY.
