CALCUTTA(PTI): Chief Minister of India’s eastern state of west Bengal, Jyoti Basu’s personal telephone line at his Salt Lake residence was disconnected on Oct11 for nonpayment of bills, but re stored two days later after officials learned it was the chief minister’s phone, reports “the telegraph.”

Basu found his phone ‘dead’ ‘Thursday morning and remarked that he was perhaps the only chief minister whose telephone had been disconnected,

The connection was restored in two hours after Basu’s personal secretary got in touch with the telephone exchange.

Sources in Calcutta telephones said Basu’s phone was disconnected on specific instructions after it was detected that phone bills had not been paid for three consecutive cycles till October.
