CHANDIGARH: The senior Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader and former minister, Randhir Singh Cheema, has demanded the resignation of Gurcharan Singh Tohra from the president ship of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Cheema, who was one of the members of the committee which negotiated with the Central Leaders before Operation Bluestar, held Tohra responsible for the Army action.
He disclosed that on May 29, 1984, the SGPC chief was taken to the Punjab Raj Bhavan to talk to the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, on the hot line. ; He also recalled the meeting in which the then Union Home Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, had offered to install an Akali governs= ment in the state provided, they controlled Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Cheema was present at the meeting along with Parkash Singh Badal, Surjit Singh Barnala, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and Tohra.
