NEW DELHI: Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and Maharashtra Chief Minister Sharad Pawar were among the prominent candidates who filed their nomination papers for the Feb 27 state assembly polls.

Chautala filed his papers in the Meham assembly constituency which is having a by election while Pawar put in his papers at Baramati, his home town.

Nearly 300 nominations were filed in Maharashtra taking the total to 1834 while in Bihar 183 papers were filed. Nearly 700 nominations have been received in Bihar.

Major political parties in Bihar were facing strong resentment from party men over ticket distribution In Rajasthan Premier Vishwanath Pratap Singh’s Janata Dal and the Rightwing Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have come to an understanding on sharing 80 seats.

The party leaders who met in New Delhi decided to leave the remaining 40 seats to the state units to sort out. PTT
