Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra, who was under judicial custody for making seditious speeches in 1992, was today granted bail by the additional judge of the designated TADA court in Ropar B.C. Rajput. Chandumajra’s bail plea was accepted after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000. The judge directed him not to leave the country without proper permission of the court.
Chandumajra, who is also the general secretary of the party, was arrested on September 23, following court orders in a case registered against him under various sections of the IPC and TADA for making seditious speeches and inciting religious sentiments at the Holla Mohalla festival in Anandpur Sahib in 1992, Santokh Singh appeared for Chandumajra, who had been remanded to judicial lock up in Patiala jail. Reports said that the Akali leader was hospitalized following his detention. Chandumajra is expected to be released form captivity this evening.
