ISRALA, Panipat, Haryana: The Janata Party President, Chander Shekher, today, condemned the silence maintained by Rajiv Gandhi and Surjit Singh Barnala on the killings in Punjab. The Janata Party President in an interview with Tribune alleged that Barnala government is puppet of Rajiv Gandhi and they are concealing the ineffectiveness of the Prime Minister. Mr. Shekhar was upset by the daily killings in Punjab and said that the Prime Minister was not understanding the magnitude’ of the problem. He stated that it was amazing that both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister were giving different versions of the Punjab accord.
The Janata Party President condemned the recent ultimatum given by the Punjab Finance Minister that Akali Dal (L) would start a morcha if the Punjab accord was not implemented before the expiry date.
Mr. Chander Shekhar expressed the view that it will be disastrous to consider the Punjab situation as purely a law and order problem.
