NEW DELHI: The opposition parties in the lower house of the Parliament made a scathing attack on the Federal government for imposing Presidents rule in Tamil Nadu.
Participating in a discussion on the resolution seeking approval of presidents rule in Tamil Nadu former prime minister V.P Singh said this would encourage “forces of secessionism” in the country as it was depriving the people of an elected government.
However the Congress-I which provides vital support of the minority Janata Dal (S) government at the center and the AlADMK who were the target of opposition criticism defended the Chandra Shekhar government saying that if this step had not been taken then Tamil Nadu would have become like Punjab.
The Congress (I) charged the dismissed Tamil Nadu government of conniving with the Sri Lankan militant is and encouraging them to operate from the state.
V.P Singh said that the political pivot of a country was its federal structure and this had received a blow by this decision.
