JAMMU: Presidents rule was Tuesday extended for another six months in Jammu and Kashmir,
The fourth extension of central rule in the state since September 1990, came after a formal resolution was adopted in Parliament last week,
The continuance of Presidents rule in the state came following the recommendation of the Governor, Girish Chander Saxena, that there was ill a large presence of armed militants in the valley and the political process was not possible, official sources said, Presidents rule was necessitated following the expiry of six months of its third extension from September 3.1991, to March 2 this year.
The imposition of Presidents rule became inevitable in 1990 for a. variety of reasons under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution. The state assembly was initially kept under suspended and later dissolved within a month after Jag mohan took over the administration as Governor.
