NEW DELHI, India: The Centre has asked the Desai Commission not to submit its report on Punjab territorial issue in the present circumstances, according to informed sources. The Commission had been asked to identify the 70,000 acres of land in Punjab that is to be transferred to Haryana in lieu of Chandigarh as per the recommendations of Venkat-ramyia Commission. The date of submission of Desai Com mission had already been extended twice in the face of opposition by Punjab government. Originally the Commission was asked to submit its report within 24 hours by June 21st; the deadline was later changed to July 15th. Subsequently, the deadline was dropped reportedly at the instance of Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala.
