TORONTO: Mr. Nelson Mandela was honored by the Sikh community for his contributio1 to humanity at Queens Park here on June 18.

On behalf of all the Sikhs i Canada, a plaque was presented to Mr. Mandela by S Harbhajan Singh Pandori, President of the Ontario Khalsa Darbar Gurdwara and former member of the World Sikh Organization governing council.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Joe Clark, Canada’s foreign affairs minister and many other federal and provincial politicians and dignitaries.

Mr. Mandela in his address thanked the Canadian government and the Canadian people for leading the crusade against apartheid.

Later a banquet was hosted by the Canadian Prime Minister in honor of Mr. Mandela.
