VANCOUVER: Canadian Sikhs travelling to America are facing lot of harassment at the borders. They are subjected to rigorous search and made to wait for hours before getting clearance. Ladies have also to go through the rough and discriminatory ordeal. The security at the borders is tightened whenever Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to visit America.

It is reportedly being done at the instance of the Indian government that considers every Sikh as a potential assassin. Indian government is deliberately pressurizing those foreign governments where Sikhs are fairly vocal against its repressive policies and are demanding restoration of human rights and civil liberties to Sikhs in India.

On enquiry by an incensed Sikh, the security officer conceded that the discriminatory exercise was being done in view of Rajiv Gandhi’s forthcoming visit to New York to attend the U.N. session.
