NEPEAN, Ont: On July 30, 1990 Bhupinder Singh Kooner went on a religious pilgrimage to a place called Hemkhund. He was returning with three others in a van. They stopped at a railway crossing near Jalunder at a place called Rama- mundi. They were approached by police and asked to identify themselves. They got out of the van and produced their papers. The policemen in charge handed back their papers, said everything was in order and signaled they were free to go.
They turned around to get back into the van. All four were shot in the back. Their families were not officially notified. Their bodies not returned. Later families were told the police performed the cremation. No remains available. A witness who knew the four victim recounted what he saw to the family.
