NEW DELHI: Prime Minister, VP Singh has agreed to permit the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) to have a second look at the files pertaining to Bofors gun deal.

V.P. Singh, who also holds the defense portfolio, had reviewed the question of showing the Bofors files to the CAG again and decided to allow the CAG to have another look.

According to the spokesman the CAG had asked for the files as far back as September 1989 for the second look. But, the previous government had told CAG, that he had already seen the files and given his report which was submitted to parliament, It contended that since the matter was in the jurisdiction of parliament, there was no point in giving the files to the CAG again.

The present government reviewed the matter and decided that in view of the nature of transaction the files be shown to the CAG, if required by him, the spokesman said,
