PHAGWARA: Former union home minister and senior Congress leader, Buta Singh, last week, called for an impartial inquiry by the Election Commission of India into charges of irregularities committed in the ongoing Panchayat samiti and zila perishad elections in Punjab by the Minister of state for Panchayat and Rural Development Master Jagir Singh.
Former Minister and Congress MLA Dilbagh Singh Daleke, who leveled the allegations against Master Jagir Singh, had rejected the inquiry into the charges by Amritsar Deputy Commissioner, alleging that the officer was hand in glove with the minister in committing various irregularities in the election process.
Mr. Daleke had demanded a judicial probe into the irregularities. Another Congress MLA Sukhdev Singh Shahbazpuri, too, had leveled serious allegations against Master Jugir Singh, Chief Minister Beant Singh had asked the Deputy Commissioner to investigate the charges.
