CHANDIGARH: Infighting among bureaucrats working on behalf of Delhi in Punjab has intensified with reports of C.R.P.F chief K.P.S. Gill being appointed as an advisor to the Punjab governor.

Apparently in an effort aimed at stalling the appointment of former police officer as governor on the eve of the present incumbent’s appointment the Chief Secretary had thrown open a discussion among Secretaries on the Punjab issue with the result that senior bureaucrats gave vent lo anger over rampant police excesses and corruptions. The “secret” debate was reported in a section of the media It created a minor stir against the police administration although the real aim of senior officer to stall the appointment of Surinder Nath as governor was not successful.

But the civil services at higher levels have not taken kindly to the news that K.P.S Gill might be made an advisor to the Punjab governor Efforts are on to prevent this appointment.

This could be linked to the mysterious circulation of a secret report making serious allegations of corruption against certain senior police officers not excluding K.P.S Gill. The allegations pertain to the Operation of a few chit fund companies in Amritsar district a few years ago. The report is purported to be based on enquires into the chit funds. It indicts Gill for being friendly to a woman operator. D.I.G. G.I.S Bhullar has been accused of receiving a big amount from the chit fund companies Rajan Gupta S.S.P Amritsar has been involved is certain shady deals with the fund operatives. The name of I.B’s D.I.G R.S Virk also figure in the list.
