AMRITSAR: The Tarn Taran police killed the newly appointed deputy chief of the Bhindranwale Tiger Force of Khalistan (BTKF) Dilbagh Singh, alias Bagha and four other militants, in an encounter that started at 10 a.m. and lasted till 5:30 p.m. near Kadgil village in the Tam Taran police district.
Others killed in the encounter were Jamal Singh, Lt General of the BTFK, Jona’ Singh Pargat Singh and Bittu,
(Elsewhere in the state, a militant Harpeet Singh and eight other militants were among 12 persons killed in the past 24 hours.)
The police acting on a tip-off, raided a farm house near Kadgil village where an encounter ensued between the militants hiding there and the police party led by the district police chief, Ajit Singh Sandhu.
The police recovered one general purpose machine gun, one AK-47 assault rifle, one 303 rifle, one 315 bore rifle and 32 revolver besides a huge quantity of ammunition from the hideout.
Dilbagh Singh alias Bagha was appointed deputy chief after the killing of Sarjit Singh Behla in Behla encounter on June 9.
Meanwhile, three persons were kidnapped by militants in the state.
In an encounter, security forces gunned down militant Harpreet Singh alias Charan Singh alias Ladi of Babbar Khalsa along with his woman associated near loharka village in the Amritsar district.
A police spokesman said that the woman accomplice, who was operating in Ferozepur Makhu Harike and Amritsar area, had gunned down more than 100 persons, including 10 security men, and committed large scale extortions.
An AK- 5O rifle along with a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the slain militant who was along with his woman accomplice in a truck and opened fire on security forces when signaled to stop leading to the encounter.
In another encounter, security forces shot dead an unidentified militant near Dera Devipura village in Jagraon police district (Ludhiana).
