NEW DELHI (PTI): Britain has extended an additional Rs 3,000 million assistance to India for its environment related projects covering areas like pollution control and Chloro Fluro Carbons (CFC) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions, British minister for overseas development assistance Baroness Lynda Chalker conveyed this to minister of state for environment and forests Kamal Nath during his visit 6 London recently.

Kamal Nath had urged the British government to increase financial assistance to India as incremental amounts towards environment and not merely a transfer from the assistance programs which were already ongoing.

The two ministers particularly reviewed the forestry sector while having detailed discussions on the intensification of Indo British cooperation in the field of environment. It was agreed that forestry officials of India and Britain would meet shortly to identify ways and means to operationalize the Statement of forestry principles enunciated last year at the earth summit at Rio.
