NEW DELHI: The Bombay High Court Chief Justice A.M. Bhattacharjee is to resign, once he resumes duty after his medical leave, sources stated that in view of the present controversy surrounding him Justice Bhattacharjee has decided to submit his resignation to the President

The judge has got embroiled in a controversy over a payment to him in foreign exchange from a UK publisher. He is reported to have received US $80,000 from Rocbuck Publishing as royalty towards a book -‘Muslim Law and the Constitution authored by him.

If Justice Bhattacharjee was to resign, he will be the third judge of the Bombay High Court to have stopped down in controversial circumstances in the past year.

Justice Vijay Bahuguna, one of the judges of Bombay High Court, had tendered his resignation last week and the state Bar Council has already requested the Chief Justice of India, A.M. Ahmadi, to order an inquiry into the reasons, which led to his resignation.
