SILCHAR: Bodo activists have set up training camps inside Bhutan, bordering Manas game sanctuary, according to information received by the Assam Government, the Minister of State for Social Welfare, Mrs. Rekha Rani Dal Bodo said here today.
Mrs. Bodo told PTI that there ‘was sufficient proof that extremists had procured arms from the Government National Liberation Front. “That they are fighting the police with arms and bombsis one of the proofs,” she said.
Only a handful of Bodo rebels in Kokrajhar district and Udalguri subdivision of Darrang district had joined the demand for a “Bodoland” the Minister said, adding they were the disgruntled breakaway group of the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (PTCA).
Mrs. Bodo said granting of a separate “Bodoland” was impossible and that the movement was only crippling the economy of the State.
The ABSU is spearheading an agitation demanding a separate State for the Bodos on the north bank of the Brahmaputra.
