NEW DELHI: The Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) has rejected the Government proposal for acquiring the disputed 2.77 acres of land and turning separate trusts lo construct the temple and mosque. The single joint reference to the Supreme Court, under Article 145 of the Constitution has also been rejected by the BMMCC, announced its Convenor Syed Shahabuddin in a three page long statement.
Syed Shahabuddin’s reaction, more or less on expected lines, symbolized the hardening of stand by most officially representative Muslim bodies, which have reacted with distrust and suspicion over the Government proposal to acquire land at Ayodhya and construct a temple as well as a mosque, through two separate trusts. Issuing a statement to this effect, Syed Shahabuddin declared that the BMMCC “rejects the gratuitous offer of an alternative site for ‘a mosque’ since no such demand has even been made by the Muslim community.
The Committee reminded the Prime Minister that the Government would do well to fulfill its commitment to reconstruct and repair more than a score of masjid and mazaars destroyed and desecrated by the kar sevaks in Ayodhya in early December.
“The BMMCC is shocked by the decision of the Government to acquire the disputed land which would imply extinction of all nights and interests as well as of all pending suits and petitions relating to the tile to the disputed land and the status of the Babri Masjid,” said Shahabuddin.
The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIM) Secretary General Ziauddin Siddiqui has also opposed and condemned the proposed takeover of the disputed land. According to him, the Government is continuously betraying and fooling the Muslims in many ways. “We also oppose the formation of the separate just,” he added.
“We would like to make it very clear that Babn Masjid will be reconstructed at its original position and site from where it was martyred and any other place for reconstruction will not be accepted at any cost, said Siddiqui.
The National Convenor of All India Muslim Youth and Students’ Forum described the move as a farcical.
