KABULAFGHANISTAN: Rebels cut electricity to Kabul as the first snow of the season settled on the battle-weary capital Defense Ministry officials said Sunday.

It was not known immediately how quickly power could be restored.

A Defense Ministry spokesman who spoke on condition of anonymity said the blackout was the result of sabotage.

The head of Afghanistan’s electrical system Rajeb Ali Faziri blamed the action on Gulbuddin Hekmatyars Hezb-e-Islami guerrillas.
