LUDHIANA: The Bharati Kisan Union led by Ajmer Singh Lakhowal has snapped all ties with Jagmeet Singh Brar, a rebel Congress MP from Faridkot, in view of his refusal to quit the Congress.
Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, president, and Manjit Singh Kadian, general secretary of the BKU said in a statement here last week that the stand of the farmers’ union was very clear that Brar must first leave the Congress and only could adjustments or alliances be made. But since he had refused to leave the Congress, there was no question of having any wick with Brar, they said,
The BKU leaders said that at no stage had the candidature of Deepak Garg, son of Raghbir Singh, been considered by the BKU for the Gidderbaha Vidham Sabha constituency. Deepak Garg has been put on by the Congress as its had arrived at an agreement with the unified Akali Dal headed by Parkash Singh Badal and they would extend Support to the Akali Dal nominee from Gidderbaha. They also said that the BKU had decided to fight all the elections in the state in alliance with the Akali Dal in future and they would try to bring round the other Opposition parties too against the Congress.
The decision of the BKU led by Lakkhowal to snap ties with Brar has given the latter big setback. The BKU and the Lok Yudh Morcha of Brar had been taking up issues together for more than a year, The BKU and Brar had jointly organized the all-party convention at Muktsar in September last year on river waters and served a one year ultimatum to the Central Government to scrap all agreements on river water.
