CHANDIGARH: The Hindu revivalist Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Nov 20 demanded the immediate deployment of army in the sensitive areas in Punjab in the wake of escalation in militant activities in the border state.

It urged the center to issue an ultimatum to Pakistan to keep off the internal affairs of India or face consequences.

Krishan Lal Sharma, M P and general secretary of the BJP, told reporters here that Islamabad had been continuing its hostile activities against India and added that it had further intensified its “ugly designs to destabilize India.”

He said Pakistan had gone against the Shimla agreement and defied all norms of reciprocal neighboring relationship. “India, thus, will be perfectly justified to peruse the path of hot pursuit,” he said.

Sharma said the recent incidents in Punjab presented a very grim picture of the state of affairs there. And added that there seemed to be a deep rooted conspiracy to disintegrate the country.

He alleged that the current situation in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir was the consequence of lack of clear direction and a concrete action plan by the previous two governments.

He described the tie up between the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress (I) as an “unholy alliance”.
