Ahmebad: Nearly 370 junior doctors from four municipal corporation hospitals in Ahmebad went on a flash strike on Thursday night but following the toughs and taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party which controls the civic body the doctors had to call off their strike within three days.
The strike was called when a student nurse alleged that two doctors had misbehaved with her and the two were suspended. The use said that while she was on duty at the Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital on Thursday afternoon one of the doctors had slapped her.
Following this accusation the nurses of the hospital went on strike. They returned to work when they were given assurance by the hospital superintendent that appropriate action would be taken on the basis of the written complaint of the student nurse against the doctors Hospital authorities hen suspended the two doctors.
But then according to Deputy Municipal Commissioner S.K. Mahapatra a High Court order of 1983 was recalled which stated that junior doctors could not strike hence making the doctors actions.
An advertisement was also posted in local dailies attempting to recruit junior doctors as the authorities served termination notices to 370 junior doctors on Saturday morning. That evening the strike dissolved when the doctors unconditionally called it off according to the Mayor Praful Barot.
The doctors have resumed their duties and normalcy was restored in the affected hospitals. Although the mayor stated that the authorities would consider sympathetically the issue of suspensions of the two accused doctors as the strikers had requested
