NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the Bofors scandal and all its aspects. The inquiry must be conducted by a Supreme Court judge with a mandate that its findings must be given within the shortest possible lime. The BJP leader demanded a “proper, full criminal inquiry,” into all aspects of the Bofors gun deal, to be conducted “openly and in full public glare.” Bofors, he said, was a live issue. It will form a part of the BJP’s mass campaign against corruption in high places and might be one of the core issues in the elections.

The Swiss court’s disclosure, Vajpayee observed, was a condemnation of a “fraud,” perpetrated on Parliament and the nation through a collusive and perverse parliamentary inquiry. I was also a severe condemnation of the collusive manner in which the CBI was converted into a tool for preventing the truth from becoming public; He said that it was the most telling comment on the functioning of the judicial system.
