Gandhi Nagar, (PTI) In a sudden and surprise shift in its stand on Afghanistan, the right-wing opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) soft-pedaled on the recent developments there and wanted the Indian government to watch the situation and act in the interest of the people of Afghanistan and India.

Only two days ago, the BJP at its national executive had expressed its apprehensions that the Pakistani supported Mujahideen forces coming together in Afghanistan might give a boost to the pro Khalistani forces in the country.

The international resolution moved at the concluding day of the three-day national council, Stated there is some hope now that their suffering is at an end and the Afghan nation could look forward to an era of peace and development.

It is vital that the government of India carefully watches the developing situation in that country and act in the interest of the people of Afghanistan and India, the resolution said,

Keeping in line with the BJPs stand on Pakistan, the international resolution said Pakistan would come to terms emotionally with India only when it clearly perceived that continued hostility towards India would bring about its own destruction.

Describing India’s foreign and defence policies as lacking clarity and devoid of understanding, the resolution said India must exercise its nuclear option.
